Peter Cole

ARTIST STATEMENT

When painting I rely on working directly from the image. Usually that is of people engaged with an activity around water. Sometimes these paintings are continued in the studio. With sculpture I don´t work as directly with a model but will develop a figurative theme from sketches. In my sculpture and painting my goal is to create a vital image of the human figure.

In 1988 I finished a Masters degree in sculpture from Boston University. In 1988 I began a 18 month Fulbright grant to study  the wooden folk art sculpture of Mexico. In the 1990´s I was an adjunct faculty member for ten years at the University of Utah.

Currently I have been a faculty member for 10 years at the Universidad Mundial in La Paz Mexico. I teach Sculpture, drawing and painting. For me teaching serves as a complement to my art work.
